Discover with us the Pearl of the Tuscan Archipelago, the Giglio Island, an island that is part of the Tuscan Archipelago with the island of Elba, Pianosa, Capraia, the Island of Montecristo, Giannutri and Gorgona, and is located facing the beautiful and extraordinary Monte Argentario.
Giglio Island is, in terms of size, the second island of the Tuscan Archipelago and is famous for its unique natural beauties: from the crystalline sea emerald, with rich and rich waters, to its territory, almost completely still all wild .
Reaching the Giglio Island is very simple and convenient: two shipping companies, with departures every day from Porto Santo Stefano, in Monte Argentario, connect it with the mainland from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm.
The duration of the crossing is quite short and you get to Giglio Porto, the only port of the island, after about an hour of navigation. For those who want to bring the car in tow it is advisable to book on time, especially on weekends, during the holidays or in the summer months. Once you arrive at Giglio Island you can enjoy the typical Mediterranean climate, with a rather long summer season, not very hot but dry that precedes, or follows, the short winter season with a slightly humid climate and with few rains.
Giglio Island offers to the many lovers of the sea and its beauties many beaches, isolated coves to reach only by boat, rare and beautiful beauty and numerous headlands, as Punta dell’Arenella, Punta della Calbugina, Punta della Campana, Punta of Capel Rosso, Punta di Capo Marino, Punta di Castellare, Punta Corbaia, Punta delle Cote, Punta del Faraglione, Punta del Fenaio, Punta Gabbianara, Punta del Gesso, Punta del Lazzaretto, Punta di Mezzo Franco, Punta del Morto, Punta della Pen and many, many others.
Not to mention the innumerable inlets. Here they are, all with their name: Cala degli Alberi, Cala dell’Allume, Cala delle Caldane, Cala delle Cannelle, Cala del Corvo, Cala Cupa, Cala dei Giudicelli, Cala del Lazzaretto, Cala di Pietrabona, Cala Saracinesca, Cala dello Schizzatoio , Cala degli Sparvieri, Cala Tamburata, Caletta, Fonte del Prete.
The crystal clear waters that surround the Giglio Island offer extraordinary sceneries to all scuba-diving enthusiasts and, leaving the beautiful sea, the uncontaminated territory of the Giglio Island invites you to walk the many pedestrian paths to enjoy the views that take your breath away for their beauty and uniqueness.
Only two are the cities of Giglio Island, inhabited by just under 1500 people: Giglio Castello (photo above) a picturesque medieval village on the heights of the island, and Giglio Porto (photo below) where you arrive by ferry from Porto Santo Stefano (in the Argentario) on the mainland, a small and picturesque village characterized by multicolored houses that are reflected in the sea, unimaginably clear to be the sea of a port.
