The Sardinian Cavalcade
The Feast of Beauty
The Sardinian Cavalcade has earned the title of the “Feast of Beauty” thanks to its unique and fascinating characteristics, which have remained unchanged since the first edition of 1711, when the city council of Sassari wanted to honor King Philip V of Spain, characteristics that they included it in the celebrations of the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
The Sardinian Cavalcade was officially born in 1899 when King Umberto I, accompanied by his wife Margerita di Savoia, inaugurated the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II in front of about three thousand people in traditional dress, all from the province of Sassari.

Today you can relive the magical atmosphere of the Sardinian Cavalcade on the penultimate Sunday of each month of May witnessing an unforgettable show for wealth and majesty, an extraordinary spring festival, the biggest secular event in Sardinia.
Sounds and colors, music and dances, jewels and costumes flank the tenor singers who alternate their rhythm with the trampling of the horses’ hooves while riders and amazons pay homage to spectators offering bread, cakes and first fruits.
In the Sardinian Cavalcade the knights of Sedilo and the sartiglieri of Oristano, the Mamuthones and the Issohadores of Mamoiada and the Boes and Merdules of Ottana capture attention with their masks full of charm and mystery while the Sarunbus launeddas surround the march.
During the Sardinian Cavalcade you will live a unique and unforgettable atmosphere from the morning with the parade of two kilometers in the streets of the historical center with floats decorated with flowers that precede 65 folk groups and about thirty on horseback, all wearing the traditional dress of the city of origin often enriched with embroidery and gold and silver filigree jewels, while the afternoon is reserved for pariglie, equestrian rides in which the bravest riders perform in spectacular acrobatics on racing horses.
In the evening, in the central square of Italy, you will listen to songs and see traditional dances, on the notes of launeddas, tenores and accordion songs, until night.
The Sardinian Cavalcade has consolidated over the years until it has become annual, becoming a folkloric parade of traditional Sardinian clothes, an authentic expression of Sardinian culture that invites you to discover the strong sense of the Sardinian community, its natural beauties, cultural, craft and food and wine.
During the Sardinian Cavalcade you will live as in a living museum made of women, men and children with traditional clothes, bodices, skirts, veiled headgear and berritte.
